A spirit of "family philanthropy" was something David Welles, Sr., inherited from his father, and he wanted to ensure that the family tradition was kept alive. A TCF donor advised fund provided him the means to do so, and to engage his own children and grandchildren in the process. They now maintain three funds at the Foundation, focusing on children, culture and quality of life issues not only in the Toledo area, but across the nation.

After the sudden death of their 10-year-old daughter, Claire, in 2000, Brad and Julie Rubini wanted to honor their daughter and keep her spirit alive by focusing on her love of books, storytelling and music.
