TCF Announces GEAR UP Scholarship Awards for 2009-2010

TOLEDO, OHIO, July 15, 2009 - The Board of Trustees of the Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. recently awarded $140,864 in 2009-2010 college scholarships from the GEAR UP Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation.
The GEAR UP Scholarship provides annual scholarships to graduates from Waite High School who have participated in the requirements of the GEAR UP program at the school. GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a partnership of Bowling Green State University (BGSU), Toledo Public Schools and Toledo community organizations funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Through this partnership, BGSU staff work with Waite High School students and their parents to increase the students' chances of making a college education a reality. This is the fourth year of disbursements from this fund.
