TCF Awards Grants Totaling $85,634 to Support Services for the Elderly

TOLEDO, OHIO, March 19, 2010 - The Board of Trustees of the Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. recently approved grants totaling $85,634 from various Field of Interest Funds to support services for the elderly.  Nine area nonprofit organizations will benefit from these grants.

The following grants have been awarded from three separate funds of the Toledo Community Foundation to support services for the elderly:

  • Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. - $10,000 was awarded to support program costs of the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, which assists seniors in long-term care facilities.
  • Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Association, Inc. - $15,944 was awarded to support evaluation and coordination costs of early stage Alzheimer's programs.
  • Assistance Dogs of America, Inc. - $7,500 was awarded to support the care and training of service dogs that may be placed with senior citizens.
  • East Toledo Family Center - $7,650 was awarded to support programs and activities benefiting senior citizens.
  • Friendly Center, Inc. - $3,850 was awarded to support services provided to seniors utilizing the organization's Senior Club.
  • Hospice of Northwest Ohio - $4,000 was awarded to provide training to caregivers enrolled in the Caring for the Caregivers Program.
  • Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio - $10,000 was awarded to assist senior citizens enrolled in the Promise Program.
  • Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. - $10,000 was awarded to support elderly clients served through the Senior Legal Services Program.
  • The Sight Center - $16,690 was awarded to support elderly clients utilizing services of the Vision Rehabilitation Program.

The Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. is a public charitable organization created by citizens of our community to enrich the quality of life for individuals and families in our area.  In existence since 1973, the Foundation now has nearly 500 funds with assets of approximately $135 million.  The Foundation provides philanthropic services for individuals, families, businesses and corporations to meet their charitable giving needs.
