TOLEDO, OHIO, June 1, 2010 - The Board of Trustees of the Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that Tessa Scott of West Toledo is the recipient of a $1,500 Buckeye CableSystem/TV One Scholarship. This scholarship, in its second year, provides an annual, one-time award for graduating high school students of African American heritage who are permanent residents of Buckeye CableSystem's Toledo service area to attend an accredited post-secondary institution of their choice.

Ms. Scott graduated in May from St. Ursula Academy and will attend Ohio University this fall where she will study computer engineering/technology.

Active throughout her high school years, Ms. Scott was involved in the St. Ursula Academy Concert Choir, JV Tennis, Student Council, Spirit Club, Zonta Club, Campus Ministry, JETS, Drama Club, Latin Club, Afro Club, Hip Hop Club, and TV Anchor/Technology Club.  Her community service involvement includes tutoring for The Learning Club of Toledo; reading to students at Rosary Cathedral grade school; Change a Life Mission Project for Calvary Baptist Church; co-organizer of Fashion Share for Calvary Baptist Church; and helping with the summer lunch program at Calvary Baptist Church, among others.

The Scholarship was established by Buckeye CableSystem and TV One, a cable television network targeting primarily African American adults with a broad range of lifestyle and entertainment-oriented programming.  TV One is available on Buckeye CableSystem's digital channel number 186.  Buckeye CableSystem serves more than 130,000 customers in the greater Toledo area, offering 300 digital, high-definition, and analog channels of entertainment and information, as well as video on demand.  The locally owned firm also offers Buckeye Tel, residential telephone service, and Buckeye Express high-speed Internet access.

Scholarship applicants are required to have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and submitted an essay addressing the theme "America's First African-American President, Barack Obama: How Will it Influence Your Life as an African-American?"

Applications for the Buckeye CableSystem/TV One Scholarship of the Toledo Community Foundation are available through the Guidance Departments of high schools in the Buckeye CableSystem Toledo service area, generally after the first of the year. Scholarship awards are announced in April.
