TCF Awards $159,766 in GEAR UP Scholarships

TOLEDO, OHIO, August 4, 2010 - The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. recently awarded $159,766 in 2010-2011 college scholarships from the GEAR UP Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation.

The GEAR UP Scholarship provides annual scholarships to graduates from Waite High School who have participated in the requirements of the GEAR UP program at the school. GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a partnership of Bowling Green State University (BGSU), Toledo Public Schools and Toledo community organizations funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Through this partnership, BGSU staff work with Waite High School students and their parents to increase the students' chances of making a college education a reality. This is the fifth year of disbursements from this fund.
