TCF Awards Nearly $500,000 in Grants From the ProMedica Advocacy Fund

Eight Area Nonprofit Organizations Receive a Total of $493,171

TOLEDO, OHIO, October 4, 2010 - The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. recently approved grants totaling $493,171 from the ProMedica Advocacy Fund to eight area nonprofit organizations. 

ProMedica Health System created a donor advised fund, the ProMedica Advocacy Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation, this year to be used for charitable purposes.  A request for proposals was offered to nonprofit organizations located in and providing services for residents of ProMedica Health System's 27-county service area whose programs provide food, clothing and shelter services that support the health and well-being of individuals and/or families. 

The following grants have been awarded to support these organizations' programs:

 Associated Charities of Lenawee County was awarded $10,000 to provide food to individuals and families in need.

 Cherry Street Mission Ministries was awarded $200,000 to support the establishment of the South Toledo Community Center that will provide social, educational and medical services.

 Erie-Huron Counties Community Action Commission was awarded $7,300 to purchase a new furnace for the Norwalk Emergency Shelter.

 Mobile Meals of Toledo was awarded $20,000 to support the Weekender Program, which is a school-based distribution program that provides food to children.

 Saint Vincent dePaul Society of Fostoria was awarded $10,000 to provide shelter, transportation assistance and food to individuals and families.

 The Salvation Army of Hillsdale was awarded $10,000 to support the establishment of a community soup kitchen.

 Toledo Seagate Food Bank was awarded $135,871 to purchase a refrigerated truck to transport food.

 United Way of Defiance County was awarded $100,000 to establish the Back Pack Buddy Program, which is a school-based distribution program that provides food to children.
