TCF Awards Grants Totaling $307,085 from Community Funds to Ten Nonprofit Organizations

TOLEDO, OHIO, December 20, 2010 - The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. recently awarded grants totaling $307,085 from its Community Funds (both unrestricted and field of interest) to ten area nonprofit organizations. 

Grants from the Foundation's unrestricted funds are considered three times annually, and are awarded only to nonprofit, charitable organizations. The next deadline for receipt of proposals in the Foundation office is January 15, 2011. Toledo Community Foundation is the largest philanthropic organization in Northwest Ohio, committed to building healthy communities and promoting the responsible stewardship of resources.

Grants were recently awarded to the following organizations:

 Advocates for Basic Legal Equality - $84,351 was awarded to support the Mobile Benefit Bank project in Lucas County and expand services into Wood County.

 Arts Commission of Greater Toledo - $16,744 was awarded to expand services for the performing and literary arts community.

 Bittersweet, Inc. - $25,000 was awarded to expand the services for children with autism that are offered at the Pemberville facility.

 Heartbeat of Toledo - $14,000 was awarded to expand educational programming.

 Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio - $75,000 was awarded to support the Lucas County Initiative to Improve Birth Outcomes.

 Partners in Education - $21,835 was awarded to support the establishment of a college mentorship program.

 Toledo Area Humane Society - $5,593 was awarded to offer educational programming to youth that fosters a greater understanding of animal welfare.

 Toledo Zoological Society - $10,062 was awarded to implement the ZOOTween Program, a new volunteer opportunity for youth between the ages of 10 to 13.

 United Way of Greater Toledo - $50,000 was awarded to support the social and emotional learning program.

 Young Women's Christian Association - $4,500 was awarded to support the teen sexual assault and dating violence prevention education program.
