TCF Awards $425,779 in Grants from the ProMedica Advocacy Fund
12 Area Nonprofit Organizations Benefit
TOLEDO, OHIO, August 9, 2011 – The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. recently approved grants totaling $425,779 from the ProMedica Advocacy Fund to 12 area nonprofit organizations.
ProMedica created a donor advised fund, the ProMedica Advocacy Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation, to be used for charitable purposes. A request for proposals was offered to nonprofit organizations located in and providing services for residents of ProMedica’s 27-county service area whose programs provide food, clothing and shelter services that support the health and well-being of individuals and/or families.
The following grants have been awarded to support these organizations’ programs:
• 1Matters.org - $39,500 to expand the Project Connect initiative to three counties.
• Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo - $9,500 to complete the kitchen upgrade project to provide evening meals at two club locations.
• Cherry Street Mission Ministries - $100,000 to support programming at the South Toledo Community Center.
• Communities in Schools of Lenawee County - $3,000 to support the Lenawee Urban Exchange that provides clothes to students.
• East Toledo Family Center - $12,500 to support kitchen renovations that will allow for the inclusion of healthy food options.
• Geary Family YMCA - $75,000 to support the weekend meal program.
• Habitat for Humanity – Maumee Valley - $15,000 to support the Home Repair Ministry program.
• Meals ‘til Monday - $7,000 to support the weekend meal program.
• Mobile Meals of Toledo, Inc. - $20,000 to support the weekend meal program.
• The Salvation Army – Hillsdale - $20,000 to support the community soup kitchen, fresh food initiative and the food choice pantry.
• Toledo Botanical Garden - $77,605 to support Toledo GROW’s Oneida City Farm.
• United Way of Defiance County - $46,674 to support the weekend meal program.
