TCF Announces Recipient of Buckeye/Telemundo Scholarship

One Award Given to Graduating High School Student of Hispanic Heritage

TOLEDO, OHIO, May 20, 2014 – The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that Mia Mottmiller of Oregon, OH is the recipient of a $1,500 Buckeye CableSystem/Telemundo Scholarship. This scholarship provides an annual, one-time award for graduating high school students of Hispanic heritage who are permanent residents of Buckeye CableSystem’s Toledo service area to attend an accredited post-secondary institution of their choice.
Ms. Mottmiller graduates in June from Clay High School and will attend The University of Toledo this fall where she plans to major in journalism. 

While in high school, Ms. Mottmiller participated in Marching and Pep Band, and held the position of Band Squad Leader for three years; participated in Limelighters (Drama Club) where she participated in eight shows, and was elected a Representative and Secretary by her peers; and she was also a member of Volunteer Focus, a program facilitating volunteer service opportunities for students interested in helping their peers and community.  Additionally, she was one of four students chosen to be a Youth Diplomat in the International Youth Academy, a program of Toledo Sister Cities International.  

The Scholarship was established by Buckeye CableSystem and Telemundo, one of the Spanish-language networks carried on Buckeye. Scholarship applicants are required to have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and submit an essay addressing the theme “I’m Proud to be a Latino in Ohio.”

Application for the Buckeye CableSystem/Telemundo Scholarship of the Toledo Community Foundation is administered online at www.toledocf.org.  Applications for the 2015-2016 academic year will be available in December. Scholarship awards are announced in April.
