TOLEDO, OHIO, June 2, 2015 – The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that Jacqueline Stewart of West Toledo is the recipient of a $1,500 Buckeye CableSystem/TV One Scholarship. This scholarship provides an annual, one-time award for graduating high school students of African American heritage who are permanent residents of Buckeye CableSystem’s Toledo service area to attend an accredited post-secondary institution of their choice.

Ms. Stewart recently graduated from Start High School, and will attend The Ohio State University in the fall where she will study forensic anthropology or international business.

Active throughout her high school years, Ms. Stewart was involved in National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Law and Leadership through the University of Toledo Law School, and the Toledo Association of Negro Business Women and their Debutante Cotillion. Her community activities include participating in blood drives for the American Red Cross, clean up at the Toledo Speedway, and volunteering with Toledo Head Start.

The Scholarship was established by Buckeye CableSystem and TV One, a cable television network targeting primarily African American adults with a broad range of lifestyle and entertainment-oriented programming.  TV One is available on Buckeye CableSystem’s digital channel 186 and high-definition channel 680.  Buckeye CableSystem serves more than 120,000 customers in the greater Toledo area, offering 300 digital, high-definition, and analog channels of entertainment and information, as well as video on demand.  The locally owned firm also offers Buckeye Phone, residential telephone service, and Buckeye Express high-speed Internet access.

Scholarship applicants are required to have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and submit an essay addressing their career goals and how education/studies beyond high school will contribute to those goals.

Application for the Buckeye CableSystem/TV One Scholarship of the Toledo Community Foundation is administered online at www.toledocf.org.  Applications for the 2016-2017 academic year will be available in December. Scholarship awards are announced in April.
