TCF Announces Recipient of Buckeye CableSystem/TV One Scholarship

TOLEDO, OHIO, June 2, 2016 – The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that Ms. Blake Minter from Scott High School is the recipient of a $1,500 Buckeye CableSystem/TV One Scholarship. This scholarship provides an annual, one-time award for graduating high school students of African American heritage who are permanent residents of Buckeye CableSystem’s Toledo service area to attend an accredited post-secondary institution of their choice.

Ms. Minter will graduate this week from Scott High School, and attend Bethune Cookman University in Florida in the fall, where she will study Business Administration.

Active throughout her high school years, Ms. Minter was involved in National Honor Society, Student Body Government, Teen Pep and Student Ambassadors, and took advantage of opportunities with Toledo Excel Summer Institute, Youth Leadership Toledo and Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership seminars. Her community service activities include volunteering for various organizations including Grace Community Center, Old West End Academy, Race for the Cure, The Ability Center and Helping Hands, among others.

This Scholarship was established by Buckeye CableSystem and TV One, a cable television network targeting primarily African American adults with a broad range of lifestyle and entertainment-oriented programming. TV One is available on Buckeye CableSystem’s digital channel 186 and high-definition channel 680. Buckeye CableSystem serves more than 120,000 customers in the greater Toledo area, offering 300 digital, high-definition, and analog channels of entertainment and information, as well as video on demand. The locally owned firm also offers Buckeye Phone, residential telephone service, and Buckeye Express high-speed Internet access.

Scholarship applicants are required to have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and submit an essay addressing their career goals and how education/studies beyond high school will contribute to those goals.

Application for the Buckeye CableSystem/TV One Scholarship of the Toledo Community Foundation is administered online at www.toledocf.org. Applications for the 2017-2018 academic year will be available in December. Scholarship awards are announced in April.
