TCF Announces 2017 Jamie Farr Scholarship Awards

TOLEDO, OHIO, May 19, 2017 – The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. recently awarded $51,000.00 in 2017-2018 college scholarships from the Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation. Since its inception in 1994, this scholarship fund has awarded nearly $1 million ($981,000) to 89 students from 50 different high schools in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.

New recipients, who each received $3,000.00 awards for the 2017-18 academic year, include (institution attending in parenthesis): from Oregon, OH, Alexandrea Derrer, Cardinal Stritch High School, attending The Ohio State University and Brittany Lipper, Clay High School, attending The Ohio State University; from Clinton, MI, Nikole Hartung, Clinton High School, attending Grand Valley State University; a resident of Napoleon, OH, Elizabeth Kolbe, Napoleon High School, attending Purdue University; and from Maumee, OH, Mary-Catherine Scarlett, home-schooled, attending the University of Dallas.

Renewal scholarships were awarded in the amount of $3,000.00 each as follows: Rochelle Bauer, Toledo, OH (University of Indianapolis); Courteney Buchanan, Elmore, OH (The University of Toledo); Jamie Comstock, Sylvania, OH (The University of Toledo); Bailey Drossman, Toledo, OH (The University of Toledo); Erin Graves, Bowling Green, OH (Miami University); Logan Hartmann, Clinton, MI (The University of Toledo); Hannah Koechley, Bellevue, OH (Notre Dame); Morgan Korecki, Toledo, OH (Bowling Green State University); Ngoc Lien Mai, Maumee, OH (The University of Toledo); Caitlin Matthews, Toledo, OH (John Carroll University); Suzanne Pietrzak, Maumee, OH (The Ohio State University); and Mikayla Simon, Toledo, OH (The Ohio State University).

The Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 to assist deserving high school seniors from northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan in attending a post-secondary institution of their choice. Once awarded, the scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years of undergraduate study.

Applications for the Jamie Farr Scholarship are accepted online through the Foundation’s website, and information about availability is provided to Guidance Departments of over 120 high schools in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, generally after November 1. The 2017 Marathon Classic presented by Owens Corning and O-I, formerly known as the Jamie Farr Tournament, will be held July 17-23 at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio. The Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation is a beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds from this tournament, which help to fund these scholarships.
