Together We Can Make A Difference - Support Communities Affected by Recent Natural Disasters

Published on 11/02/2017 by Joanne Olnhausen

Mark and Rose Makulinski, fundholders at Toledo Community Foundation, watched like many of us did as a series of hurricanes pummeled Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and, now, California deals with massive wildfires. They wondered how they could help those whose lives have been devastated in the aftermath of these disasters.

They have decided to graciously offer a matching Challenge Grant of up to $250,000.00 to help those impacted by natural disaster. Working with the Makulinskis, Toledo Community Foundation has recommended five trusted partners as giving options – a community foundation in each of those areas affected.  We know that community foundations are uniquely positioned to provide both monitoring and reporting on how these funds will be used. This challenge grant and all donations we receive will go toward the long term recovery efforts in the affected communities.

Here’s how it works:

Any gift an individual directs to one of the following Community Foundation funds will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000 per individual gift. So in other words, if you make a gift of $10,000, it is matched at $10,000 and the organization will receive a total of $20,000.
