TutorSmart was created to support sustainable, high-quality, afterschool academic tutoring that drives measurable results for all students in need in the metropolitan Toledo area.  It will:

  • Initiate a community-wide tutoring structure with a centralized coordinating organization
  • Incorporate tutoring best practices in all willing providers
  • Enact a funding strategy that attracts new state and national funding while maximizing existing streams to create stability for providers and incentivize high performance
  • Create a data system for continuous improvement and insight into community-level outcomes

 

Job Description

The Executive Director is responsible and accountable for the long and short term strategy, as well as the day-to-day management of TutorSmart, under the supervision of the Board of Directors.  The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the agency mission, values and strategic direction.

The Executive Director oversees all operations, functions and activities of the organization and acts as the face of the organization, responsible for giving the proper strategic direction and implementing a high quality vision. The Executive Director must be an influential leader with the ability to guide and motivate the organization, leveraging excellent communication skills and taking a holistic approach to Greater Toledo's tutoring operations.

Additional accountabilities include:

  •  Work with the Board of Directors to generate and implement a long range plan including annual goals and strategies for achieving those goals.

  •  Oversee the fiscal management of the organization including but not limited to preparation, updating and monitoring the agency budget, approval of expenditures, monthly fiscal reports and filing of corporate returns and audit, as needed.

  • Develop and implement the short and long term tutoring plan, based on the Lourdes University recommendations. This implementation program includes the details of the tutoring activities, collaborating organization enlistment and delivering data driven reporting. 

  • Develop, implement and sustain a fundraising program attracting national, state and regional governmental funding as well as national, regional and local foundation and individual sources. Staff properly to deliver the necessary funding.  Fund to reach the need in the community.  Sustainability is critical as well as reporting data driven results to the funding stakeholders. 

  • Develop and implement training plans for tutoring staff and tutors at partner providers. Hire, train, and manage TutorSmart staff as required. 

  • Implement a data sharing program that measures progress, identifies focus areas and enabling communication between the teacher and student, while maintaining and assuring all necessary confidentiality. 

  • Serve as agency leader, supporting and communicating with staff members on all agency planning, programs and staff development and setting a positive, collaborative atmosphere. 

  • Manage and evaluate all agency programs. Serve as a liaison between the agency, Board, schools, parents, program funders and other stakeholders. 

  • With the Board of Directors, identify and evaluate agency risks and implement measures to mitigate risks. Implement legal decisions of the Board of Directors and assure all relevant regulations and laws are followed. 

  • Act as agency spokesperson. Represent or designate a representative to appropriate community organizations.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with an education based major, required, with a Master’s degree desirable
  • A minimum of five years of experience working in nonprofit, education or related fields
  • Experience with tutoring programs is advantageous

  • Strong ability to listen, persuade and convince stakeholders on critical opportunities while being candid
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, issues and concerns from various perspectives and work toward solutions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in developing strategies and plans
  • Experience with project management
  • Strong fiscal management knowledge and skills

 

Full-time position – 40 hours/week

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications
