TOLEDO, OHIO, February 18, 2019 – “GivingTuesday” is a global day of giving, and happens on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. This day of giving is fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. For the sixth year, our local nonprofit organizations have benefitted – in the 2018 calendar year to the tune of over $650,000.

Toledo Community Foundation, in partnership with The Blade and The Center for Nonprofit Resources, introduced #GivingTuesdayNWO in 2013 to encourage nonprofits to begin online giving programs and encourage donors to make local giving a priority. Year over year, this day of giving has seen remarkable efforts to involve the business community and build capacity of local nonprofits, especially small grassroots nonprofits.

Results obtained through an online survey prove that local nonprofits raised $635,161 in one day. In addition, Mark and Rose Makulinski, Toledo Community Foundation fundholders, provided $15,000 to fund three unrestricted grants for our local nonprofit organizations participating in GivingTuesdayNWO. The combined efforts of the Makulinskis and our local nonprofits resulted in more than $650,000 being distributed to worthy causes in Toledo and northwest Ohio.

Three separate drawings were held from all of the local organizations that participated in #GivingTuesdayNWO 2018 and the Mastermind workshop series offered through The Center for Nonprofit Resources. One lucky winner was chosen to receive an award of $5,000 in three categories: Small Organization, Large Organization, and Organization that participated in both Mastermind sessions and GivingTuesday. Those awards go to:
Small Organization: Mountain Mentors
• Large Organization: Toledo School for the Arts
• Mastermind Session Attendees: The 577 Foundation

#GivingTuesdayNWO will take place this year on December 3, 2019.
