The David C. and Lura M. Lovell Foundation Designated Fund Awards Grants Totaling $158,438 to Six Nonprofit Organizations

TOLEDO, OHIO, July 3, 2019 – The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation recently approved $158,438 in grants from the David C. and Lura M. Lovell Foundation Designated Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation (Lovell Fund) to six area nonprofit organizations.

Grants from the Lovell Fund are made to nonprofit organizations whose programming seeks to reduce the stigma around living with and seeking services for a mental health issue.

Grants were made to:

• Advocates for Basic Legal Equality – $40,000 was awarded to support the Eviction Crisis and Mental Health Response project that would develop data related to the impact of eviction on mental health consumers and identify solutions and inform future community strategies.

• Imagination Station – $12,438 was awarded to support a STEM-based learning experience designed to help youth receiving services from the Zepf Center to develop confidence, resiliency and team building skills.

• NAMI of Greater Toledo – $30,000 was awarded to support educational programming and support for families coping with the mental health diagnosis of a family member.

• NAMI of Greater Toledo – $10,000 was awarded to support the Kidshop program that helps children with a mental health diagnosis or who have a family member with a mental health diagnosis to build self-esteem, develop coping skills, form positive relationships and minimize isolation.

• Thomas M. Wernert Center – $34,700 was awarded to support the expansion of art studio programming that provide individuals with a mental health diagnosis opportunities to use the creative process to express their emotions, facilitate personnel and social growth.

• Zepf Community Mental Health Center – $31,300 was awarded to support the creation of a mosaic mural that will provide individuals with a mental health issues a means to share their journeys, learn new skills and educate the community about mental illness.
