TOLEDO, OHIO, September 9, 2020 - The Board of Trustees of Greater Toledo Community Foundation recently awarded grants totaling $82,200 from its Community Resilience Fund to six area nonprofit organizations. At the same time, the final grants from the COVID-19 Response Fund have been awarded in the amount of $58,714 bringing the total distributed from that fund to $509,422.17.

Grants from the Foundation’s Community Resilience Fund are designed to assist nonprofit organizations in the Greater Toledo region in transitioning to sustainable recovery efforts in the wake of circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Greater Toledo Community Foundation is the largest philanthropic organization in northwest Ohio, committed to building healthy communities and promoting the responsible stewardship of resources.

Initial grants from this newly-created fund were awarded to six area nonprofit organizations:

Baby University: to strengthen virtual programming services offered to low-income parents in south and downtown Toledo.

PCs for People: to make computers and computer accessories accessible to low- and moderate-income families.

Prevent Blindness Ohio – Northwest Ohio Chapter: to launch a virtual training certification program for individuals that work with at-risk populations.

Toledo Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA): to transition to virtual live or recorded performances.

Valentine Theatre: to transition to virtual performances of featured artists and small group productions.

YWCA of Northwest Ohio: to implement a shared services model for child care centers.

GTCF will continue to make grants from the Community Resilience Fund through the end of 2020. A second application deadline passed on August 30, and there is one more application deadline for these funds on October 15. See our website for additional information at https://www.toledocf.org/

Greater Toledo Community Foundation created the COVID-19 Response Fund in March 2020 to support northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan nonprofit organizations as they assisted in responding to the spread of COVID-19 in the community and experienced financial challenges in doing so. GTCF has now distributed 100 percent of funds raised toward this effort.

The final grants recently approved total $58,714.17, bringing the total distributed from this fund to $509,422.17 to 65 nonprofit organizations. The final grants from the COVID-19 Response Fund are:

Connecting Kids to Meals: to support the summer meals program.

Bittersweet Farms: to install and maintain hand-washing stations.

The Ridge Project: to support the distribution of basic needs items to families who have a member currently incarcerated.

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio: to provide reproductive health care to high-risk patients at the Toledo Health Center.

Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board: to coordinate and supply homeless service providers with basic needs items including sanitizing supplies, meals, hotel costs for quarantine stays and additional staff time needed to serve participants.
