TOLEDO, OHIO, June 17, 2021 – The Board of Trustees of Greater Toledo Community Foundation recently awarded grants totaling $1,045,730 from its Community Funds grant programs which includes the Initiative, Builder and Impact funds. Greater Toledo Community Foundation is the largest philanthropic organization in northwest Ohio, committed to building healthy communities and promoting the responsible stewardship of resources.

The Community Funds Initiative Grants Program supports projects in the areas of Education, Health, Access and Nonprofit Capacity Building. Through this fund, HOPE Toledo Services was awarded $600,000 (over three years) to partner with Toledo Early Learning Coalition and YWCA of Northwest Ohio to establish a shared services system that will provide resources like bookkeeping, fiscal oversight, enrollment management and human resources support to child care service providers in northwest Ohio through a membership model.

The Community Funds Impact Grants Program provides seed money for new, innovative programming that addresses unmet community needs. Through this fund, Greater Toledo Community Foundation awarded the following six grants totaling $420,730.

  1. Center of Hope Family Services, Inc. – $55,730 was awarded to expand the ELEVATE program to Sylvania.
  2. Gracehaven - $125,000 was awarded to support case management services for teen victims of sex trafficking.
  3. JumpStart, Inc. – $50,000 was awarded to support business technical assistance services and network-building for fledgling entrepreneurs and small business owners.
  4. Lourdes University – $65,000 was awarded to support the Fueling a Teacher of Color Pipeline project that will increase the diversity of students enrolled in the University’s education program and transition those students into positions with local schools.
  5. Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board – $60,000 was awarded to support the Housing Problem-Solving Project.
  6. YMCA and JCC of Greater Toledo – $65,000 was awarded to expand the Safe Routes to School program to Washington Local Schools.

The Community Funds Builder Grants Program provides seed money for new, innovative programming that addresses unmet community needs or to support capacity building efforts of existing nonprofit organizations. One grant totaling $25,000 was awarded.

  1. The Fair Housing Center – $25,000 was awarded to support the landlord tenant mediation program.

Grants from the Foundation’s unrestricted funds (aka Community Funds) are considered two times annually, and are awarded only to nonprofit, charitable organizations. Community Funds are one of many options the Foundation offers to meet our donors’ different charitable interests. Community Funds offer the broadest giving option, allowing grants to be made wherever our professional staff determines our community’s needs are the greatest.
