Foundation, donors grant more than $12.6 million year-to-date in grants and scholarships
TOLEDO, OH, October 15, 2020 – The Board of Trustees of Greater Toledo Community Foundation announced $1,200,983.46 in grants approved in the third quarter of 2020. Primarily supporting northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, the Foundation and its donors have invested more than $12.6 million in grants and scholarships in the community year-to-date.
With assets of $330 million invested, Greater Toledo Community Foundation gives away approximately $18 million annually to causes important to the Toledo region.
“This has been an unusual year in that we had unexpected and tremendous basic needs brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic that needed immediate attention. With the generous support of our donors, we were able to respond to those critical needs while continuing our work to advance long-term projects for the benefit of the Toledo region,” stated
Keith Burwell, president of Greater Toledo Community Foundation. “That is the beauty of endowment funds – we have the ability to do both as we continue to work alongside our donors and our nonprofit partners to meet the needs of the community, wherever they are.
In addition to the grants approved in the third quarter, the Board of Directors also authorized significant funds to create the Community Resilience Fund and the Equity & Access Initiative Fund over the past two months. The Community Resilience Fund was created as an extension of the COVID-19 Response Fund to assist the Greater Toledo region in transitioning from basic needs to sustainable recovery efforts. In response to recent events across the nation and within Toledo, the Foundation created the Equity & Access Initiative Fund to proactively address the concerns raised by communities that are disproportionately impacted by inequity and lack of access in the Greater Toledo area.
