TOLEDO, OHIO, May 27, 2020 – Greater Toledo Community Foundation announced this morning following its Board of Trustees meeting a second COVID-related fund – the Community Resilience Fund – to address long-term recovery efforts of individuals and organizations as a result of the COVID outbreak.

GTCF will seed the fund with $100,000, and invites local individuals, philanthropists, family foundations, corporations and businesses to add to the fund in support of our community’s recovery. The Board of Trustees approved adding an additional $100,000 to the fund at a later date, if necessary, to address anticipated requests for funding from local nonprofit organizations. The fund is designed to thoughtfully deploy resources:

1) To community-based organizations providing services that assist residents in stabilizing their lives after experiencing impacts caused by the outbreak, or

2) To organizations restructuring their service delivery and agency operations based on lessons learned from the coronavirus pandemic.

Nonprofit organizations implementing long-term recovery initiatives related to the coronavirus outbreak can submit a proposal through the Foundation’s online application process. Grant Guidelines and additional details of this new funding opportunity are provided at

The Board of Trustees of Greater Toledo Community Foundation also approved one additional grant from the COVID-19 Response Fund in the amount of $5,000 to Unity United Methodist Church/STARS to support a drive-up food pantry serving East Toledo and Northwood. This brings the total awarded from this fund to date to $355,648.

Greater Toledo Community Foundation created the COVID-19 Response Fund to support northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan nonprofit organizations as they assist in responding to the spread of COVID-19 in the community and experience financial challenges in doing so.

Donations to the COVID-19 Response Fund or Community Resilience Fund can be made online at GTCF will continue to make grants from these funds as long as donations are received. GTCF will provide grants to northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan nonprofits and will not be giving money directly to individuals. GTCF is distributing 100 percent of funds raised.
