Haiti Earthquake:  Ways You Can Help

One of the greatest humanitarian disasters in recent memory is unfolding in Haiti.  Devastated by a 7.0 earthquake on Tuesday, Jan. 12th, much of its basic infrastructure that provides basic human needs, including food and water, is unable to function. Early estimates indicate up to one-third of Haiti's nine million residents have been impacted in some way. As many as 100,000 people have died. Thousands have been injured and many are living on the streets because there is no safe shelter.

The best way to help people in Haiti at this point in time is to make monetary donations to organizations which are experienced in disaster relief and have a presence in the country.

Foundation fund holders who want to help may make gifts from their advised funds to agencies responding to the disaster.

Among the many excellent agencies providing disaster relief or connected to providers are these nonprofit organizations:  Note:  You can click on the organization's name for more details on their efforts.
